Keywords: My favorite tools

Knowing your industry is important when searching for the appropriate keywords to target. Even before begining a keyword search, I usually have to research on the specific industry's terms & terminologies, catchphrases, etc. Having a deeper understanding of every industry that I optimize for is important because then I am able to see trends in keyword searches, historical keywords and even be able to decipher the long-tail keywords.

Here is how I know I have the right keyword or keyword phrases:
1. The keyword actually matches current content on the website that can be further refined through content development
2. Market competition is already present in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages)

Its better to use more than one so you can reference each keyword or keyword phrase. Some tools offer more search criterias and others are just general and pertain to one market.

Every major keyword or keyword phrase should have a landing page. I dont suggest having more than two (2) major keywords and two (2) minor keywords and/or keyword phrase per landing page or else the Search Engines might get confused.

Directory Submissions

Submitting a website in numerous directories is an important factor for achieving better rankings in the Search Engines.

The directory that you submit to will automatically link back to your website. A link back to your website is a vote for your website. But there is a catch - think like the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards - Actors vote for their favorites within the movie industry. It wouldn’t make sense for a doctor from a medical field for vote for anyone during the SAG awards. In the same spirit - if your website is about Real Estate, it would make sense to any sensible person (and yes, to Search Engines) if links coming in are from Real Estate related websites.

A good number of directories to submit to would be around 20 to 50. Try to list with local and/or niche directories, which will emphasize either your location or specific industry.

Important note: When choosing paid directories, it would be wise and well worth your money to ensure that not more than 25 links are leaving the page and that it has, at the very least has a page rank of 3/10 or more.

This linking algorithm aka “vote-for-my-website” is the heart and soul of Google Search. Brilliant if you ask me. Just brilliant.

SEO in the Cayman Islands

When you search for 'Cayman Islands' on Google, it will surprise you to see that over 51,000,000 websites are competing for this search term. This search term is generally defined as a keyword. 'Cayman Islands' is a major keyword and it gets over 22,000 searches per day. Thats roughly 660,000 searches per month.

If your business is located in the Cayman Islands - how do you make it appear in the first page for your industry's major keyword?
